Announcing Regional Summits on Women's Reproductive Rights and Health
"Reproductive health care services are a basic human right, not for a privileged few, but for all."
That was the message that the Center - and more than 100 state legislators from throughout the United States - sent to Members of Congress last year as a result of our June 2009 Strategic Action Convening: A Framework for Health Care Reform. These state legislative leaders reminded Congress that any national health care reform must include "comprehensive women's reproductive health care as core services within the definition of essential benefits."
So far, Congress has not delivered and our message has not changed.
The Center and state legislators are not waiting for Congress to act. During 2010, we are convening a series of Regional Summits on Women's Reproductive Rights and Health - led by state legislators. DONATE NOW
The Southern Summit, hosted by South Carolina state Representative Gilda Cobb-Hunter, will develop initiatives to respond to the impact of HIV/AIDS on women in the Deep South - a matter of great urgency because seven of the ten states with the highest HIV/AIDS case rates among women are in the South.
The Southwest Summit, hosted by Arizona state Senator Linda Lopez, will develop strategies to preserve women's reproductive rights and access to reproductive health care services throughout the region.
