Post Election Action Convening on US Foreign Policy 2005

The Center convened three pairs of legislative leaders from three states to build state-specific action plans to bring key foreign policy issues home to their constituents.  Each state pair included a graduate of the Center’s Foreign Policy Institute for State Legislators and her colleague, a newly elected state legislator:

Representatives Nancy C. Detert and Trudi Williams, Florida
Representatives Marilyn Lee and Lyla Berg, Hawaii
Senator Karen Fraser and Representative Sherry Appleton, Washington

The Post Election Action Convening considered several current foreign policy topics that have resonance at the state level as well:

-international trafficking of women and girls
-reproductive rights and health
-how US voters view US foreign policy and development assistance programs
-CEDAW -- the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women
